What a website should cost a Nottingham business in 2026
The price question is the first one everybody asks and the one most agencies answer last. Here is the straight version.
Why quotes vary so much
Ask three Nottingham agencies for a website quote and you can get three numbers that differ by thousands. That is not because one of them is lying. It is because "a website" can mean anything from a single page to a shop with hundreds of products, and because the quote hides decisions about who writes the words, who supplies the photos, and who keeps the thing running afterwards.
So the useful question is not "how much is a website" but "what work is inside this price". The work is roughly the same everywhere: planning the pages, designing them, writing the copy, building it, testing it on real phones, connecting your domain and email, and setting up the basics that let Google find you.
The three price bands you will meet
DIY builders (roughly free to £30 a month).Wix, Squarespace and friends are genuinely fine for testing an idea. The costs are your evenings, a site that looks like everyone else's, and the moment you discover the thing you need is on the next plan up. For a business that lives on local search, the ceiling arrives fast.
Freelance and small studio builds (roughly £800 to £3,000). This is where most Nottingham small businesses should be shopping. You get a site designed around your business rather than a template with your logo on it. The spread inside this band is mostly about copy, photography and how many pages you actually need.
Agency projects (£5,000 and up). Sensible when the website is the business: booking systems, e-commerce at scale, integrations. Overkill for a five-page local site.
Where cheap gets expensive
The expensive cheap website is the one nobody looks after. Software goes out of date, forms quietly stop sending, the person who built it has moved on, and the first you hear of it is a customer saying they could not get through. Whoever you hire, ask what happens after launch and what it costs. If the answer is a shrug, that is the real price appearing.

- Who owns the domain and the site when we part ways?
- What does looking after it cost each month, and what does that include?
- Will it meet accessibility standards, and will it be fast on a phone?
- Can I see the price before we start, in writing?
